Make-up Tip #1

Published by conniefirechick at 3:36 pm under Uncategorized Edit This

As I was wondering through that bastien of heinous fashion, Walmart, I managed to pass by about 100 Fashion Police Misdemeanors.    The most aggregious of these offenses was a group of college aged (looking) students wearing more makeup than most Kabuki theatre troupes on a show night.

Ladies out there- I realize that make-up is a tricky thing.  But for God’s own sake, don’t be afraid to take it off and start over.

The worst of the group was aiming for a ‘cat eyes’ look, but ended up with ‘raccoon’ instead.   She had small, close set eyes which caused the look to over power her face.   Here are some tips on how to create a darker look without closing off the eyes:

1. Pick your colors of eyeliner and apply them as you normally would.  The darkest color goes in the crease, the medium color in a ‘v’ shape at the outer corner of the eyelid, and the lightest fills in and blends harsh lines.

2.  With your eye shadow in place and using a soft smudging eyeliner- Start just above the pupil of the eye and, following the lashes, draw the eye liner line.  Stay close to the eye lashes on the top.

DO NOT GO ALL THE WAY TO THE CORNER BY THE NOSE.   With close set eyes- you are visually taking away that space and closing off the eyes.

3.  Smudge the line with a q-tip or smudge brush- moving outwards towards the outside corner of the eye.

4- Below the lashes- starting under the pupil- lightly apply the eye liner below the lashes.  Use the same q-tip/ smudge brush to smudge it.  The excess from the top will naturally darken the line, without causing too much to be applied.

5.  To the inside corner of the eye- apply the lightest color of eyeshadow or a white/ beige color.  You want to make sure that this is a very light color so it doesn’t over power.  The idea is to brighten that space, not draw serious attention to it.

6.  Blend with fingertips to finish off look and make uniform.

And viola! Basic steps towards getting a polished and varying look.   And remember- just because the models pull it off- doesn’t mean it’s for everyone!   Humans are different sizes, shapes, and dimensions- but all beautiful.

So, good luck to all the lovelies out there, and here’s to better style!
